There are more than several scenes from Joker that were left on the cutting room floor. One of the scenes, in special, included a bathtub and was deemed too insane by director Todd to be added in an R-rated film. What probably could have gone down in this scene that was any stupider than anything that made it into the theatrical cut? Is there any possibility we will see this footage released. If we are to take Todd Phillips at his word, that’s not very likely.
Todd Phillips newly did an extended Q&A regarding his unconventional DC Comics adaptation with the SBIFF Cinema Society. The topic of removed scenes came up, and Todd Phillips determined to elaborate, just a bit, on one of the scenes that were deleted from the final edit. Here’s what Todd Phillips had to tell.

“There were two or three other [on-the-fly scenes] we shot, one that is amazing in a bathtub, but I don’t think we could actually include it in an R-rated movie. And it’s not because it was pornographic, it was just insane.”
There are more than a few crazy things in Joker as it exists. So the fact that an innocuous bathtub scene that is not “por*ographic” would have possibly been too over-the-top for an R-rated film such as this is interesting. Unhappily, for now, at least, Phillips hasn’t elaborated on the quality of the scene and what exactly happens. So it’s left up to imagination for now.
Will we see this scene? Or any of the other removed scenes from the film for that matter. Finally, that’s up to Warner Bros., but Phillips is very much against the idea. In a different, recent interview, Todd Phillips revealed that he’s opposed to removed scenes and doesn’t like the concept of even including them on the Blu-ray/DVD release. Here’s what he had to say.
“No, there’s plenty of deleted scenes, yeah, but they’re not going to be on the DVD. I don’t do deleted scenes… Deleted scenes are deleted for a reason. I have a thing against extended cuts and I kind of hate deleted scenes. The movie that exists is exactly the movie we want it to be, I feel like all that adding deleted scenes do is confuse it.”
Joker has earned nearly $1 billion at the world box office and is poised to become the most successful comic book film in history. Joaquin also looks destined to score an Oscar nomination for his performance as the titular role.
